ALLIANCE Assembly member Sean Neeson is deeply concerned at today’s Appeal Court ruling, which overturned a damages award for an asbestos-related claim, and hopes that it does not have any implications for sufferers in Northern Ireland.
Mr Neeson, who has led calls for justice for asbestos victims in Northern Ireland, stated:
“When I raised the issue about asbestos-related diseases in the Assembly, I received unanimous support from members. The Assembly also agreed to set aside funds for compensation for former employees of Harland and Wolff who had contracted asbestos-related diseases.
“The whole issue of asbestos cannot be underestimated, and it is my hope that the judgment in the English courts will be challenged by the individual and also the trade unions.”
