Sustrans is proposing to re-open a former access route to Belfast’s Titantic Quarter as part of works to link the existing Comber Greenway and the community of Ballymacarrett into the revamped docks, so that people can make their local journeys by foot and bike, further promoting environmentally sustainable transport options.
It is anticipated that the new direct link between Ballymacarrett and Titantic Quarter will be established through the newly reopened Frazer Street, over the blue pedestrian bridge across the Sydenham ByPass, into Titanic Quarter. In the opposite direction the proposals would see the route follow Island Street across Dee Street with a new pedestrian crossing linking with the Comber Greenway to the Holywood Arches and on to the countryside out to Comber.
Judith Cochrane MLA said: “This announcement from Sustrans represents a great opportunity, not only to develop and enhance transport links across East Belfast, but also for the wider community to share in an exciting era of renewal for the Titanic Quarter and benefit from the enhanced opportunities that are likely to unfold throughout this year and beyond.”
