Cochrane reminds parents to apply for a nursery place

Alliance East Belfast MLA, Judith Cochrane is reminding parents of children born between 2nd July 2010 and 1st July 2011 that they will need to apply for a nursery place in the coming weeks.

The Programme for Government gives a commitment to provide a year of pre-school education for all those who want it, however this does not mean that children will always be placed in their preferred setting. Preparations are currently underway for the admissions process for pre-school places in September 2014 and Judith is encouraging parents to visit their local nurseries and pre-schools in advance of the application deadline on 10th January.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “As a mum of two young children, I know how busy this time of year can be but I cannot emphasise enough the importance of visiting your local pre-school providers to ask about specific entrance criteria so that you make the best choices when completing the application form.

“In previous years I have seen children miss out on a place in one of their preferred settings because of poorly informed selections at the time of application.”

Information for parents will be made available on the Education and Library Boards’ websites later this week as well as at the pre-school providers. If you would like to discuss the application process further, please contact Judith at her Ballyhackamore office – 028 9065 2317 or office@judithcochrane.com
