Alliance representative Jackie Coade has commended all those involved in dealing with an exploded pipe bomb type device in Newry.
Responding to reports of a loud bang, PSNI officers discovered the viable exploded device in the Ashgrove Road area.
Jackie said: “We must be thankful that no one was injured in an incident that was clearly designed to cause maximum damage. It is extremely concerning that this is the third incident in the past few months and I commend all those involved in swiftly dealing with this situation.
“The discovery that what was thought to be a loud bang was actually a viable exploded device has shocked local people and lead to a lot of fear and concern within our community.
“Those behind this do not speak for everyone in the area and must be condemned. My thoughts are with anyone affected by this incident today.
“I would urge anyone with information to come forward immediately to help the PSNI with their enquiries.”
