Tens of thousands of people packed the entire Main Street, Promenade and Harbour areas to view the various aircraft displays and the return of the Red Arrows.
Cllr Patrick Clarke said: “Thousands of people watched the stunning aerobatics of the Red Arrows as they performed in the skies above Newcastle on Saturday.
“The spectacular air displays were breathtaking and could be seen for miles along the coast.
“With the Red Arrows display, the Summer Festival of Flight has become a major tourism success for the Newcastle area. It is now one of the leading air shows on the island.
“No doubt the booking of the Red Arrows, as well as the other airplanes including the Lancaster, Typhoon and Vulcan, have truly made the Festival of Flight an exciting, dynamic and successful annual family event in Newcastle.
“I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate all those involved in the organisation and planning of the Festival of Flight in Newcastle, as well as the volunteers, emergency services and the entire staff of Down District Council, who made the event run so smoothly.”
