Councillor Patrick Clarke had voiced his serious concern to the safety of horse riders and horses crossing safely into and out of Castlewellan Forest Park from Mount Pleasant Horse Treking Centre.
Councillor Patrick Clarke said: “I very much welcome the decision by DRD Roads Service to install new horse warning signs along the Bannonstown Road Castlewellan near to Mount Pleasant Horse Treking Centre.
“I had made written representations to DRD Roads Service regarding the provision of new horse warning signs following a number of horse riders contacting me to voice their concern as to their safety on the Bannonstown Road because of speeding vehicles.
“Following a site inspection DRD Roads Service have now agreed to my request and will be erecting two horse warning signs to advise motorists to slow and drive with caution due to horse riders and horses entering and leaving Castlewellan Forest Park.
“I am therefore pleased that my writtten representations to DRD Roads Service have been successful in securing new horse warning signs to be erected near Mount Pleasant Horse Treking Centre.
“The new horse warning signage will add to the safety of horse riders and horses which cross the Bannonstown Road in and out of Castlewellan Forest Park to Mount Pleasant Horse Treking Centre on a daily basis.”
