Glengormley Alliance Councillor, Tom Campbell, has expressed sadness that a local Catholic ceremony at Carnmoney cemetery is to be postponed this Sunday in part as a result of recent disturbances.
Cllr Campbell said:
“It is a basic and fundamental right of any decent society that people should be able to participate freely in their religious observances. No one should feel any threat in such circumstances. Whilst the Church has specifically said that this event is not being postponed because of a direct threat, intimidation and the threat of and actual violence has been prevalent in the past here. I am sad that tensions caused by recent violence may have been behind such a decision.”
