Campbell calls for full investigation into Mallusk fire

Newtownabbey Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell has called for a full investigation into the cause of a fire at Mallusk Industrial Park. The fire which started on Thursday night has caused disruption to the surrounding area with the Fire Service putting up a 200 metre exclusion zone around the mechanical engineering works, which will remain until 11pm on Friday night.

Cllr Tom Campbell said: “There must be a full investigation into the cause of this fire. This is an extremely dangerous situation given the presence of gas cylinders at the site, and I want to praise the bravery of the firefighers involved in putting the blaze out.

“I hope this fire does not have a negative impact on this business. I am sure that their work being disrupted while the fallout from this fire is dealt with is the last thing that they need, especially during this economic downturn.

“It is also causing major disruption to traffic in the area. The traffic flow in the vicinity is bad enough without the diversions caused by this fire.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this fire to contact the police so they can establish the cause of it.”
