Stewart Dickson MLA said: “This is an issue of massive public interest and significance. I call on the Minister to make a statement in the Assembly to outline the measures in place to deal with adverse winter weather conditions.
“Last winter was simply horrific. Many people had days and days without water and many streets and town centre pavements went untreated. This not only affected towns, it also had an immense impact upon the rural community.
“Making a statement to the Assembly would give the Minister a chance to provide reassurances to the public about plans which have been devised to address adverse winter conditions.
“The Minister had previously outlined progress which had been made in relation to the gritting of town centre footpaths. I would like the Minister to give the Assembly an update on this and outline the extent of NI Water’s plans and preparations for this winter in a statement.
“It’s far better to discuss the issue now than to face a situation like last winter presented so many people with.”
