Alliance Health Spokesperson Paula Bradshaw has welcomed the appointment of Fiona Ryan as the Commissioner for Survivors of Institutional Childhood Abuse.
The South Belfast MLA stated: “This appointment marks a watershed in the campaign for justice and recognition of those suffered so appallingly.
“My first thoughts today are with the victims of institutional abuse who are not with us to see this appointment and to see the beginning of a process which will give them the recognition they needed and deserved.
“I know Fiona Ryan will be the first to emphasise there is no time to lose in implementing the recommendations of Sir Anthony Hart, including the apology and memorial as well as much needed compensation.
“I would also like to commend campaigners who have got us to this point. The last few months and years have been extraordinarily difficult. This appointment represents a corner turned.
“I look forward to working in any way I can with Fiona Ryan on progressing the recommendations swiftly.”
