Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has said she will meet the Belfast Trust tomorrow morning to discuss the major review into 752 contraceptive implants being incorrectly inserted.
More than 750 women are being contacted over the implants, which have been inserted over the past three years. The review goes back to 2017 and at present involves women in the Belfast and South Eastern health trusts.
“I was profoundly shocked to hear news of what has occurred. Something has clearly gone horrendously wrong, and a major and urgent review must be conducted,” said South Belfast MLA Ms Bradshaw.
“My first thoughts are with the women affected. As public representatives we must ensure they get the answers they need swiftly and openly.
“There will also be considerable work to do to restore any sort of confidence in this procedure, and in those responsible for carrying it out. Such appalling errors simply should not ever occur.”
