Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has said it is “wonderful news” after the UK approved a COVID-19 vaccine for widespread use.
Health Minister Robin Swann said the first vaccinations using the Pfizer/BioNTech jab which offers up to 95 per cent protection against the virus, could begin as soon as next week.
“The news a vaccine has been approved is such wonderful news, not least for those who have been unable to see their loved ones in care homes, who have had to shield, who have been unable to work because of the closures and many others,” said South Belfast MLA Ms Bradshaw.
“It will also be a sad day for the 1,000 plus families whose loved ones lost their fight against the coronavirus before the vaccine programme could be rolled out. They are in our thoughts.
“I would like to send my best wishes to all those healthcare professionals and support staff who have a mammoth task in front of them with this unprecedented vaccination programme, and I can ensure them of Alliance’s full support.”
“In the meantime, we must all remember to follow public health advice regarding social distancing, washing hands and wearing face coverings.”
