Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has welcomed the Health Minister’s announcement on the phased return of fertility services, particularly the eligibility extension.
The return of services at the Regional Fertility Centre in Belfast was announced by Robin Swann today, along with an extension of eligibility of a year for anyone currently on the waiting list. South Belfast MLA Ms Bradshaw said it had been an issue raised with her constantly throughout lockdown.
“I was contacted many times throughout the pandemic by women and families concerned they would exceed the age limit despite already being on the waiting list, and thus miss out on a vital service.
“I therefore warmly welcome the announcement eligibility for those on the waiting list will be extended by a year, and that opening hours will be extended to provide as many appointments safely as possible. This move will reduce distress which had been widespread.
“I would urge a swift resumption of appointments to enable this phased return to result in full service as soon as possible.”
