The local boxer was closely beaten by China’s defending champion Zou Shiming in the light-flyweight semi-finals, on Friday, August 10.
Councillor John Blair said: “I want to congratulate Paddy Barnes on yet another Olympic medal.
“Paddy’s win today proves what a great Olympic Games he has had. He may be disappointed, but he has no reason to be as his performance today showed great determination and strength.
“He has made Northern Ireland proud, putting up a great fight and pushing for victory until the last second. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be, but Paddy can still be extremely proud of himself and all he has achieved.”
