Alliance Fermanagh and South Tyrone representative Matthew Beaumont has condemned those behind the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer.
The officer was at home in Kesh when he was confronted by a masked man armed with a shotgun around 2am. The man pointed the gun at the officer and attempted to fire, however, the gun did not go off. Police have said they believe organised criminal elements were responsible for the murder bid.
“I am horrified to learn of this attempt on the life of this officer,” said Mr Beaumont.
“Nobody should face this kind of threat, especially not somebody serving their local community, and my thoughts are with them and their loved ones. Actions like this do nothing but hark back to the past, a past nobody wants us to go back to.
“If anyone has any information on this incident, I urge them in the strongest possible terms to take it to police immediately.”
