Alliance Councillor Sorcha Eastwood has emphasised that the Backstop is essential for Northern Ireland’s future.
Councillor Eastwood was speaking in New Ross, Co Wexford at the annual Kennedy Summer School as part of a panel discussing ‘The increasingly complex relationships on this island.’
Councillor Eastwood said: “Brexit is not an orange or green issue, but opposition to Brexit is from right across all political views in Northern Ireland.
“Northern Ireland voted to remain in the EU and the Alliance Party is best placed to articulate the views of many people right across society on this crucial issue.
“The Backstop is an essential insurance policy and a Northern Ireland only backstop should be considered to safeguard our economic future.”
