Flammable liquid was poured through the woman’s letterbox in the Glenard Road area of Newtownards around 1.25am today (Tuesday). The woman was able to extinguish the fire, which caused scorch damage to the door of the property.
Two males, aged 38 and 40, were arrested a short time later and they remain in custody.
“It is extremely lucky nobody was killed in this arson attack. I question the mind-set of those behind this incident – what possess them to start such a dangerous fire and put lives at risk?” said Ms Armstrong.
“We must ensure those behind this despicable incident are brought to justice. If anybody has any information about this attack, then I urge them to contact the police.”
