South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has spoken out after she was subjected to carjacking attempt today, which happened near her constituency office in South Belfast. The person involved in the attempted carjacking was armed with a knife. He fled, leaving Anna unhurt and did not take her car. Anna has reported the incident to the police.
Anna Lo MLA said: “I am not the only person that has suffered such an ordeal and my thoughts continue to be with anyone who has suffered at the hands of those involved in such acts. This incident serves to highlight the need for everyone to be vigilant in relation to carjackings. We need to have those behind such acts brought to justice.
“I am speaking out to highlight this very troubling issue which has come to prominence in recent times. I want to encourage anyone who has been subjected to such an incident to report it to the police and I also call on anybody who has witnessed anything like this to contact police immediately. People need to give the police all the help they can to catch those behind this spate of carjackings and attempted carjackings. This remains a real problem in Belfast, particularly South Belfast. People have a duty to report any suspicious activity of this nature to the PSNI.
“It is particularly worrying that such incidents can happen in broad daylight in very busy areas.
“Alliance Justice Spokesperson Stewart Dickson is arranging a party meeting with the police, involving Belfast Alliance Councillors, to discuss this extremely worrying trend.”
