Alliance welcomes jobs boost for East Belfast after devastating week

East Belfast Alliance Party Councillor, Maíre Hendron, has welcomed the new that 185 new jobs will be created for East Belfast. It was announced today that Citigroup, which is based at Queens Island, will increase the number of people employed there to 560 by 2009.

Cllr Maíre Hendron said: “I welcome this news about the creation of 185 new jobs in East Belfast.

“East Belfast sorely need high-value jobs and it looks like Citigroup will deliver this type of employment to the area.

“This announcement provides a much-needed boost for the people of East Belfast, as it comes on the back of the announcement that 650 jobs are to be lost at Shorts.

“After such a devastating week, I hope that this is a sign of better news to come regarding the local economy.”
