Alliance East Belfast MP Naomi Long and MLAs Judith Cochrane and Chris Lyttle have welcomed the official opening of the Skainos project on the Newtownards Road in East Belfast. They have said that it will be a focal point for East Belfast and will provide job opportunities and shared space for community development.
Judith Cochrane MLA said:”This is a magnificent new project for the area. It will provide a focal point for East Belfast.
“I previously sat on one of the advisory panels to help decide what certain spaces could be used for, so I am particularly happy to see its official opening with social enterprises setting up inside the building.”
Naomi Long MP said: “Having had the opportunity to attend the first service in the new Church and a number of community and charity events in the building over recent weeks, I appreciate what a fantastic project this is for the East of the city. It is not only a remarkable building, but provides purpose-build space in which to develop the work to which the Mission has been committed for many years, such as homelessness and job creation, and allow that to be further expanded. I hope that it will act as a model as to how to build a sustainable and energy efficient building which is a genuine community hub.”
Chris Lyttle MLA said: “I think everyone in East Belfast is increasingly aware of this spectacular building that is offering the widest range of services including housing, social enterprise, community development, retail, further education and community worship to the local area. I would congratulate everyone involved with the project and look forward to continuing to support their excellent work.”
