Stephen Farry MLA said: “This failure to take a clear decision does not reflect well on the Executive and hopes for good government. Great efforts have been made by many stakeholders to get to this point. At a time of great financial pressure people will rightly be asking why this major reform process of the public sector has stalled.
“This failure is much broader than simply a disagreement over the costs and benefits of reform and who pays, but reflects parochial decisions to set aside independent recommendations with respect to boundaries. Alliance expects the Minister of the Environment to give an early statement to the Executive on what the way forward now is for local government.”
