Alliance demands equal pay for women and men

Castlereagh Alliance Councillor, Sara Duncan, has demanded that pay for women and men be made equal across the board. Her call comes following the publication of figures in the Family Resources Survey for Northern Ireland, which showed that women earn on average £100 per week less than men.

Cllr Sara Duncan said: “I am shocked and appalled that women are earning £100 per week less than men. It is terrible that after all the advances made on equality, women still appear to be getting a raw deal at work.

“Alliance has long demanded equality on pay for women and men. These figures, while not being specific about profession, illustrate the financial inequalities which still exist between men and women here.

“These figures illustrate that sexism is still institutionalized within society throughout Northern Ireland.”
