Councillors Nuala McAllister, Emmet McDonough Brown and Paula Bradshaw attended the memorial event at City Hall in tribute to the soldiers who fought in the 1916 Battle of the Somme.
Councillor Nuala McAllister said: “99 years ago today at the river Somme in France more than 3,500 soldiers from the 36th and 16th divisions lost their lives. It is important we remember their sacrifice.
“In recent years Alliance has led the way in ensuring these special events are dealt with sensitively and representative of all communities involved and I was pleased to see Republic of Ireland Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Charlie Flanagan in attendance.
“As we move forward to a number of approaching centenary celebrations, it is vital we look for every possible opportunity to increase co-operation and maintain good relations as we aim to build a shared Northern Ireland for everyone.”
