Cllr Mervyn Jones said: “I strongly condemn the violence in the Mountpottinger area of East Belfast.
“There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever for violence and anti-social behaviour on our streets and on our public transport.
“I would like to think that Northern Ireland has moved away from the days of violence and intimidation. We need to send a message to the wider world that peace and stability are here to stay.
“I wish also to appeal for calm in the run up to marching season. We know that the marching season can pass peacefully, so lets see a trouble-free summer this year.”
