Alliance Councillor Tom Campbell has said he is disgusted after a woman in her 90s was targeted during a distraction burglary in Jordanstown.
The pensioner had two men call to her home in the Jordanstown Road area shortly before 4pm yesterday (Wednesday). One of the men, who claimed they were there to carry out maintenance, then proceeded to enter the property and when the homeowner raised the alarm, the man pushed past her and left the property. Police have arrested two men in connection with the incident and they remain in custody, assisting police with their enquiries.
“My thoughts are with the homeowner, who may be feeling particularly vulnerable after this deeply upsetting incident,” said Councillor Campbell.
“I would call on other residents in the area to remain vigilant in what is a quiet, residential area. I am disgusted anyone could target another person in this manner, especially a woman in her 90s, which has shocked people here.
“I urge anyone with information on this incident to contact police with it immediately.”
