Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has restated her view free hospital car parking for staff should be made permanent, after the Health Minister announced a four-month extension.

Robin Swann approved the move, allowing free parking for HSC staff from April 1 until July 31.

“A four-month extension to free parking for health and social care staff is of course welcome, but again only re-emphasises this should be made permanent,” said South Belfast MLA Ms Bradshaw.

“Charging already low-paid shift workers for car parking is in effect a tax on employees merely for turning up to work.

“There is a clear chance to change this permanently now, and I would advocate the Minister bring forward proposals to do this urgently.”
