Alliance Health Spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has said that the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers is a reminder that no one should receive second class treatment when accessing public services.
The South Belfast MLA said: “No one should experience physical harm or discrimination in accessing the public services they require, and this day is a reminder of the importance of that point.
“We are also reminded today of the distressing impact of hate crimes against sex workers, and of the importance of the low-level work carried out by agencies such as the PSNI and dedicated charities to engage with them in Northern Ireland and ensure they are empowered to speak up and speak out.
“On the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers it is important to reflect on what is still required to ensure quality of access to justice and public services, and thus to render such days unnecessary in future.”
