Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has welcomed the specific commitments made by the Health Minister on World Suicide Prevention Day.
Robin Swann announced a series of funding boosts for suicide intervention and well-being services. Ms Bradshaw said it was important to show actions and not just words to tackle suicide.
“The funding for Derry and Strabane District Council to maintain its crisis intervention service is vital in the current situation, and for the Towards Zero Suicide programme development,” she said.
“It is essential such services and programmes are supported by an overarching strategy and by appropriate collaboration between agencies and voluntary organisations. I trust work will continue to have a Mental Health Strategy in place early next year.
“As we continue to look after ourselves and each other at this difficult time, programmes and services aimed at promoting mental well-being have never been more important.”
