Alliance Education spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has again called on the Education Minister to provide clear guidance on the planned closure of schools.
Mr Lyttle was speaking ahead of Peter Weir appearing at the Assembly Education Committee today (Wednesday).
“Covid-19 is an unprecedented public health challenge in response to which we are asking school leaders, parents and pupils to be alert but not alarmed. They are right to expect clear and effective leadership in return,” he said.
“Alliance proposed urgent engagement with key stakeholders this week and the allocation of time to plan for safe and phased school closure from Friday, March 20.
“The Education Minister must protect and support the safety of pupils and staff in all schools, and urgently establish a clear plan for special schools, childcare, free school meals, remote learning, examinations and staff pay, as part of a phased closure of schools from this coming Friday.”
