Alliance MLAs Kellie Armstrong and Chris Lyttle have said each of us have a role to play in stopping bullying in society.

The MLAs were speaking after chairing sections of an anti-bullying young people’s forum at Parliament Buildings. It saw pupils from 34 schools discuss different issues relating to bullying.

“This event discussed bullying in a range of areas, including education, sport and faith organisations,” said Ms Armstrong.

“It showed how it can be motivated by a number of issues, such as homophobia, transphobia, race, culture, sectarianism and disability. But it was also made clear there is a solution to bullying and that starts with each one of us. We all have a role to play in recognising it, stopping it and eradicating it.”

“Bullying is completely unacceptable in any walk of life and it is vital we remove it in any shape or form from our society,” added Mr Lyttle.

“I want to thank the Northern Ireland Youth Forum for today’s event. It is important we take the lessons learned from it and each do our part to eliminate bullying from our community.”
