Alliance Strangford MLA Kellie Armstrong has praised the invaluable contribution of volunteers to life in Northern Ireland as Volunteer Week 2018 takes place.
The week is an opportunity for organisations in the public, private and third sectors to recognise and thank their volunteers. In Northern Ireland Volunteer Now is taking the lead in encouraging organisations to thank volunteers for all their hard work.
“As a member of a party which has a wide base of engaged, enthusiastic and energetic volunteers, I know just how much of a contribution they make to our society,” said Ms Armstrong.
“Prior to entering politics, I was lucky to work with community transport volunteers who provided transport solutions for older people, people with disabilities and young people. Volunteers are the heart of our community and I am delighted again to support Volunteer Week.
“This past weekend our Alliance volunteers marched for equal marriage in Derry-Londonderry, while others were out on the ground, engaging with residents to understand the issues that matter to them. Our volunteers work tirelessly week-in, week-out and their willingness to dedicate their time, effort and skills to promoting Alliance’s vision of a more liberal, a more tolerant and a more open Northern Ireland makes me so proud to represent this party.”
