Alliance Health spokesperson Paula Bradshaw MLA has said while the apology from the Department of Health about the potential mass misdiagnosis of neurology patients is welcome, more communication and action is needed.
Ms Bradshaw was speaking after Department Permanent Secretary Richard Pengelly said the health and social care services apologised unreservedly after it was revealed a neurologist’s diagnoses of 2,500 patients need to be reviewed.
“I have spoken to many healthcare personnel over the last couple of weeks and I feel Mr Pengelly’s comments today very much reflect their personal sentiments,” said the South Belfast MLA.
“We are all proud of our health and social care sector and the immense dedication and efforts of staff at all levels within it, so the Permanent Secretary’s intervention today is to be welcomed.
“However, it is clear more communication for those potentially affected by this recall is needed, as well as action taken to reassure patients measures are in place to ensure this does not happen again.”
