Further money will go to Translink to address the company’s deficit and bus purchases, while the rest will pay for vehicles used for winter service.
“This news will come as a great relief to many, particularly given only last week it was revealed almost £500,000 had been paid out by the Department in compensation to drivers of vehicles damaged by potholes in the past two years,” said the Strangford MLA.
“Potholes represent a real danger to motorists and their vehicles, especially given recent snowfall and subsequent flooding, as well as cyclists and pedestrians. I hope this money goes someway to preventing further damage and stops potential injuries.
“This money will be spent before the end of March and I have already seen it start to take effect in my own constituency, with roads along the Ards Peninsula seeing the impact. I am pleased the Department has finally listened to the public outcry and are recognising the seriousness of this situation.”
