Alliance Health Spokesperson Paula Bradshaw has welcome an RQIA Review, which calls for specialist perinatal mental health services to be provided by all Health and Social Care Trusts.
The South Belfast MLA said: “The RQIA findings further endorse the argument that not enough focus is being given to specialist and targeted mental health services.
“Nevertheless, the review clearly shows a pathway to putting this right, and what we now need, urgently, is an implementation plan.
“The review also recommends a specialist Mother and Baby Unit with psychological services, something which has been long advocated by experts across the service. We also need to see this acted upon.
“This review once again shows that we have the capacity in Northern Ireland to deliver a truly world-class health service if we embrace reform. It is yet another example, however, of how this Executive has become distracted from the job of good government.”
