Nicholl selected as new South Belfast Councillor

Alliance members have selected Kate Nicholl as the party’s newest Councillor, to replace recently elected Paula Bradshaw MLA.

Ms Nicholl (28), who will represent the Balmoral area on Belfast City Council, said she will be using the position to focus on making Belfast a better place to live and work. The former constituency office worker for Anna Lo, who was born in Zimbabwe and educated in South Belfast, was selected by the local Alliance association.

“I am honoured and privileged to have been selected to replace Paula Bradshaw on Belfast City Council,” said Councillor Nicholl.

“I want to focus on making Belfast a better place to live and work for everyone in the community. I had the great fortune to work with Anna Lo for the past four years and I learnt from her that dedication, compassion and honesty go a lot further in helping constituents than the tit-for-tat politics of the past.

“That’s the type of outlook I will bring to both City Hall and the constituency, where I will be committed to working for everyone. I look forward to engaging in positive and proactive cross-community politics.”
