In recent years while the stadium has continued to grow and develop, little has been done to resolve the on-going parking problems that plague local residents.
Describing the meeting as ‘constructive’, Councillor Long said there was now work to be undertaken to assess the potential use of park and ride facilities, adding the DRD Minister to legislate to bring a lasting solution.
Councillor Michael Long said: “On a regular basis residents are suffering as eager sports fans block driveways and access routes in their haste to get to games.
“The continued success of Ulster rugby cannot come to the detriment of the neighbourhood and we must take action now to tackle a problem that has been on-going for far too long.
“I asked the Council to arrange this meeting for all East Belfast Councillors to make it clear to the PSNI and Ulster rugby officials that they have a major part to play in paving the way forward for residents and sports fans alike.
“A number of issues were discussed and I hope it was the start of real progress, offering local people hope that relief is on the way.”
