Speaking after sectarian graffiti was daubed on a wall close to the Felden development on the Mill Road, Councillor Billy Webb added work was already underway to address all the on-going issues.
He said: “Alliance is aware of the on-going issues at the site and has been working with the housing association to ensure that this space is properly shared through direct community engagement.
“And while this work continues, I am very concerned at fresh reports of graffiti at a site that is meant to provide mixed social housing. Those behind this latest attempt at intimidation should be ashamed.
“Shared space must remain open, to ensure that all sections of society can have access on, and treatment to it without denying the ability of others to do likewise.”
Councillor Nuala McAllister added: “Alliance will be requesting a meeting to try and move this issue along. Simply put we cannot tolerate those in our society whose main agenda is to mark out territory at whatever expense to others.
“The action of those behind this graffiti does not reflect the mentality of the majority in the community and I would urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”
