NI Water must reassure residents on delay to Mersey Street road works – Cochrane

Alliance East Belfast MLA, Judith Cochrane, has said that NI Water must provide reassurances to local residents and businesses in the Mersey Street area, that infrastructure work will be completed as soon as possible. NI Water announced in March that the work, which was due to have been completed in May, will not finish until December. A public meeting is taking place on Wednesday evening in St Christopher’s Parish Church Hall, Mersey Street.

Judith Cochrane MLA said: “The work that NI Water is carrying out in the Mersey Street area will undoubtedly lead to better services and help improve flood prevention, but residents and businesses have been concerned at the news that the work will not be completed till December.

“There has been a large degree of disruption to traffic in the area, with several large diversions for local people.

“I know there is anger among some local residents and local businesses at this delay, but I am pleased that NI Water have organised this public meeting to provide answers to people’s concerns. I hope they will reassure residents that they are doing all that is possible to minimise disruption and finish the work as quickly as possible.”
