Alliance Belfast Councillor David Armitage has condemned an attack on a memorial in East Belfast dedicated to two people killed by the IRA.
He said: “This act of unwanted vandalism is extremely disappointing and I condemn those who carried out this thuggish act.
“This disrespectful attack will undoubtedly cause hurt to the family and friends of those who died and are memorialised by it.
“This attack on the memory of others is likely to raise tensions in the area and I would urge no retaliations. Those behind this despicable incident must be stopped and I would call for anyone with information to contact the PSNI as soon as possible.”
