Lunn: Integrated and Irish Medium sectors will have a voice on education board

Alliance Education spokesperson, Trevor Lunn MLA, has said that he is pleased that the Assembly has passed a cross party amendment that will give the integrated and Irish medium education sectors a seat on the new education authority.

The vote took place during the Further Consideration Stage of the Education Bill.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “I am glad that for once, common sense has prevailed and we have a positive resolution to what was a divisive issue at an earlier stage of the Bill. I was pleased that so many parties signed the amendment, showing that if parties are willing to co-operate we can produce positive outcomes.

“I was disappointed by the disagreement over similar proposals at an earlier stage of the Bill, but after discussions between the parties, the integrated and Irish medium education sectors will now have a seat on the new education board.

“However, I am surprised that some of the parties who backed this amendment could not also support a proposal around the promotion of integrated education. Why did they not support both amendments?”
