The 70-year-old man was targeted in the early hours of Thursday morning, when a masked man entered his home in the Conway Walk area.
Councillor John Blair said: “This is an absolutely disgraceful attack on an elderly member of the community. I know I am speaking on behalf of all residents when I wholeheartedly condemn this incident.
“The person behind this callous attack has absolutely no respect for the elderly population in north Belfast. They must be apprehended and brought before the courts.
“I would urge anyone with information about this robbery to contact the police as soon as possible. This behaviour will not be tolerated.”
