The MLA for South Belfast has described the production as outstanding, calling on people to get involved and attend the remaining three performances.
The KT Wong Foundation aims to create a strong relationship between China and the rest of the world through cultural and environmental projects. The Opera – an adaptation of the biblical tale of Noah and the Great Flood – will be performed at Belfast Zoo as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad and also at the UK Now Festival in Beijing.
This year Anna Lo MLA has an added interest in the production, as she has welcomed two performers into her home who have travelled to Belfast from China to take part.
Anna Lo MLA said: “The talent on display tonight was absolutely outstanding and I want to wholeheartedly congratulate all involved in bringing this production to Belfast. Using Belfast Zoo as the setting was a genius idea and it proved to be the perfect backdrop.
“The cultural highlight of this year’s social calendar, it is a great honour for this performance to take place in Belfast. The KT Wong Foundation is a very well respected organisation and I am proud to have been involved with this year’s event.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the two gifted children I have welcomed into my home for the past two weeks. Their talents are remarkable and I know they have enjoyed their short stay in Northern Ireland.
“Cultural events organised by groups like the KT Wong Foundation are essential in showcasing Northern Ireland on the world stage. China has one of the biggest economies and this programme not only allows us to promote our culture, but can show what Northern Ireland has to offer to outside investors.
“I just can’t describe in words how much I enjoyed this stunning performance. It was absolutely fantastic. There are still tickets available and I would encourage others to come along to the remaining performances. You won’t be disappointed.”
Fionnula Jay-O’Boyle, deputy chairperson of NI Opera, has described Anna Lo as a major force behind the production.
She said: “Anna Lo MLA is a real inspiration and a major force behind this production coming to Belfast Zoo. Her vision and commitment to breaking boundaries ensure all cultures across Northern Ireland are well supported and have a voice. NI opera is proud to have been able to join her in working with the KT Wong Foundation.”
Noye’s Fludde will be performed at Belfast Zoo tomorrow, August 11, at 2.30pm and 6pm and August 12, at 2.30pm.
