Stewart Dickson MLA said: “I was appalled by what Lord Maginnis said. To draw a comparison between anybody who is gay and bestiality is outrageous.
“Mike Nesbitt must take disciplinary action against Lord Maginnis. There is no way that he can get away with saying that Lord Maginnis was speaking in a personal capacity, he was representing the UUP when he spoke and I am sure that many people will take his words as UUP policy until strong disciplinary action is taken.
“Mike Nesbitt has tried to paint the UUP in a new light but the comments from one of his party’s Peers will show that if you scratch the surface the UUP is still the same old party with views that do not belong in the 21st century.
“This is the latest in a series of gaffes from a party that is in decline.”
