Lyttle says progress needed on Child Poverty Action Plan

Following news that relative income poverty for children in Northern Ireland is at 28% and the figure for the UK is 20%, Alliance Party Spokesperson on OFMDFM matters Chris Lyttle MLA has asked why there is still no Child Poverty Action Plan and still no childcare strategy.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “It is staggering that relative income poverty for children in Northern Ireland is at 28%, and the UK rate is 20%. These are very worrying statistics and action is required to address this devastating problem.

“There is still no Child Poverty Action Plan and still no childcare strategy from the Office of First & Deputy First Minister and it is now clear we need urgent delivery on these issues.

“These very troubling figures must act as a call to action. We need to ensure that all our young people have the best possible opportunity in life.
