Alliance slams Minister over failure on local government

Following Environment Minister Edwin Poots announcement in the Assembly today that he is going to return planning control to councils, Alliance Environment Spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has said that his plans do not go far enough to save money in local government.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “The Minister failed to implement the Review of Public Administration and this announcement lacks any timetable for delivery. We need to make real savings at local government level and these proposals are simply a knee-jerk afterthought.

“There is a real lack of clarity on delivery. We need action from the Minister to make savings now.”
