Trevor Lunn MLA said: “Road accidents ruin lives and wreck families, and we need to be bold in our efforts to tackle this devastating issue.
“It is crucial that penalty points are recognised North and South of the border to ensure a joined-up approach on road safety.
“It’s vitally important that we look at radical ways of improving safety on the roads. It’s important that we examine the impact of raising the speed limit for learner and restricted drivers and see whether it will improve safety, and if so the measure should be implemented.
“We also need to be examining lowering speed limits in certain built-up housing areas.
“We would like to see a reduction in the drink drive limit to help increase safety on our roads. The strongest possible message must be sent out to help tackle this despicable matter.”
