Cllr Barney Fitzpatrick said: “This was an absolutely appalling incident. My thoughts are with the two men following this horrific ordeal and I hope they make a swift recovery.
“People in the town will be very shocked at news of this incident. Portrush is a very friendly town and I am deeply troubled at this news. Anyone who has information on this incident should contact police immediately.”
