McCarthy glad Ministers listen to Alliance on alcohol prices

Alliance Health Spokesperson Kieran McCarthy has said he is glad the Health and Social Development Ministers are listening to Alliance on the need for a minimum price for alcohol. Alliance included a bill for the minimum pricing of alcohol units in their legislative programme, which was the first of it’s kind ever in Northern Ireland and was launched last week.

Kieran McCarthy said: “I am very pleased that the Health and Social Development Ministers have taken on board what we outlined in our Alliance legislative programme, which we launched last week.

“This is a very positive move and I am sure it will be of great benefit to our health service, because so much of our precious resources are spend on addressing problems linked to alcohol consumption.

“This move will not really impact on moderate consumers but will help tackle binge drinking and the problems it causes.”
