Lyttle & Hendron welcome social housing boost for East Belfast

East Belfast Alliance representatives Chris Lyttle MLA and Cllr Maire Hendron have welcomed the news that the former site of Mountpottinger police station has been acquired to provide social housing.

East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle said: “As vice chair of East Belfast District Policing Partnership, I sought assurances that the PSNI would be able to sustain adequate police provision in the area without this station. Having received such assurance, I pressed for the speedy release of the site for social housing.

“I am aware of the urgent need for housing in the area and am delighted that the site will be allocated to meet this need.

Pottinger Alliance Councillor Maire Hendron said: “This is excellent news for the local people who have spent long periods of time on the waiting list for social housing as a result of severe housing stress in the area.

“I will continue to work with local groups to ensure the speedy delivery of this much needed housing scheme.”
