Lunn says we need shared stadium for Northern Ireland

Following reports that Windsor Park could be turned into a 20,000 all-seater stadium through a deal between Linfield and the IFA, Lagan Valley Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn said Northern Ireland needs a shared stadium instead.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “Where is the new shared stadium? Whilst any investment in our sporting facilities is to be welcomed, having improved but separate grounds for football, GAA and rugby is simply not the best way forward.

“Why should we have the refurbishment of three stadia when we could show more ambition and look to creating an amazing new multi-sports stadium and demonstrate we are moving forward and sharing facilities?

“Creating a shared future is supposed to be part of every aspect of government and I would like to see The Minister for Culture Arts and Leisure re-examine options for a shared stadium.

“The Maze site continues to present an amazing opportunity for the creation of a shared stadium. Has anybody come up with a better idea? I would like to see it being reopened as an option because I believe that it is the best way forward.”
